Frequently Asked Questions
I've been using the trial version to bill the claims for my firm. When I buy the full version, do I have to input all the information again?
Thankfully no! Upon activation of the full version CrimeWorks will keep using the database that you used with the trial version.
How do I send the CDS6 data file created by CrimeWorks to the Legal Services Commission?
You will need to register with LSC online to do your billing electronically. Please see Electronic Billing - LSC Online for information on how to register and submit your CDS6.
Can two different claims share the same UFN number?
Although CrimeWorks will warn you if you try to create a claim using a UFN that already exists, it will let you do so. An example of this would be when a Police Station advice claim is followed up with a Representation Order for the same case.
I cannot find how to print the CDS7 or Crown Court bill on the "Monthly CDS Reports" section of CrimeWorks. Why?
The "Monthly CDS Reports" section deals with the production of reports that summarise a whole month's work (such as the CDS6 and CDS9), not individual claims. To print the CDS7, CDS11 and Crown Court bills you need to open the desired claim, then click on the "Print" button at the top of the claim screen.
Why don't the reports look right when they are opened in Word?
You are using an older, incompatible version of Word. You need at least version 9, which is the one that comes with Office 2000. More recent versions will obviously work fine too.
What happens if the CDS forms or the billing rules change?
CrimeWorks is updated by us every time criminal defence procedures change, and the latest updates can be downloaded from this web site here. All registered users will be automatically notified of any new updates via E-mail.
